Thomas Zachariadis: Owner of Platanos Tavern
08-01-2015 13:56Mr Zachariadis how many years have you been running the Platanos restaurant and why should the visitor of the village Ambelakia stop at your business?
Platanos has more than 50 years presence in the field. It was first opened by my grandfather, then my father undertook the responsibilities, and the last 20 years I’m in charge of the restaurant. In case you stop here to have a meal or dinner, it is sure to enjoy home made dishes, that are actually like these you prepare at home by yourself. This is why we distinguish from all others.
Which is the element you pay more attention on in your business?
Well, it will probably make sense, but it is the quality of course. We focus so much on this, along with the service and the direct contact with the customers. We only use local materials, by the producers of the close area, not only because we want to support the local market, but mostly because we know their best quality. The vegetables, the potatoes, the sweets, the wine and the tsipouro.. They all come from our house and garden. We also run our own butcher’s shop, so that we ensure of the best meat. This is what my father used to do and I decided to take it to another level by working with zest on the same field.
Will you please tell us about the wine list offered in Platanos tavern?
As I mentioned, I produce my own wine and I pay constant attention in every little detail, as I want my customers to be satisfied with what reaches their table. I buy grapes from Ambelakia and Rapsani but I do the whole production procedure by myself, because I want to make sure that I will result in a high quality and delicious wine. And I do the same as far as the tsipouro production is concerned. Customers are thrilled by what they taste, so I guess I’m doing the right job.. And this is definitely one reason for which I am extremely happy, I do feel pleased by what we offer in Platanos grill restaurant.
