Mr Tatsios, how did you come up with the idea of creating «Tessera» cafe and giving it this specific name?
I always knew that I would be sometime the owner of such a place. The idea, the concept, the design are all mine and Anthi Kosmanou’s who’s an architect. The implementation was done by a team of architects and civil engineers who happen to be my friends. Our graphic artist Dimitris Evangelou designed our logo, which is a half full glass with espresso coffee with a straw and foam that shape the number four (=tessera in greek). We wanted our business to have a special logo and motto, so we chose «Tessera, caffeine and more». People who visit this place can enjoy here more than a coffee, such as drinks, candies, some dishes... whatever is also found in a home.
What make «Tessera» so special? Which is the element that makes you differ from other similar businesses?
It was clear in my mind that Tessera would be a place for everyone and that there would be no complexes. From the very first moment I said I would create a spot for a 10 year old to drink his juice, while next someone else near 30s would enjoy a tequila and a 70 year old would relax with a coffee. This is what I wanted and this is what Tessera will always be..
Which is the fact you are mostly focused on in your business?
My attention is on everyone and everything. Everyone is welcomed here. Sometimes people complain about the music, which plays at low levels from morning till night. Some would prefer it to play louder, but we do wish people to be able to communicate. When someone comes inside Tessera, he must be able to enjoy a drink or food along with his company. This doesn’t mean that he won’t hear music, it’s just that communication and discussion have great significance to us all.
What kind of music could someone hear in Tessera cafe?
We play all kinds of music, but what really inspires me is the French music, which is played during the day at regular intervals. From the time I say good morning till the time I say good night, I get inspired by listening to French songs. This is what I used to listen when I was growing up and it’s definitely what I can pass to people. And apart from me, they also seem to enjoy it! But you’ll also hear instrumental music here, rock, italian and alternative Greek. This is obvious by the choices we make and the live performances that take place at Tessera.
And something for the end.. tell us the «must» thing someone shouldn’t miss during his visit here.
He should taste the Greek coffee and the traditional sweets that are prepared according to authentic recipes, as they have been passed from mother to daughter. Then he should drink a freshly brewed espresso. How can these be connected? I am not gonna tell you the secret.. find it yourself and enjoy! In the afternoon choose to taste our club sandwich. In the evening relax with a drink. Feel free... and Tessera!
