Tourists from abroad already know the frozen yogurt. Actually they have been eating it for at least a decade. They do know its nutritional value, unlike Greeks, who despite the fact that they make high quality and tasteful yogurt, had never thought of combining it and creating a frozen delicacy. So, it seems that we “stole” the idea from abroad. Here, on the island, people have added frozen yogurt in their nutrition, since it is much more healthier than ice cream, with better ingredients and lighter.
Is Louyo frozen yogurt hand-made?
Yes, it’s made in-house, from yogurt and milk. We’ve never used any kind of mixed powders or other frozen premix. We always use pure raw materials and specifically 2% fat namely yogurt and 1.5% fat milk, following the pastry recipe that a friend of mine –known in the pastry field- confessed. On daily basis, we prepare healthy frozen yogurt in various flavors, so that you can enjoy a delicious cool snack whenever feeling to.
How many flavors of frozen yogurt do you have and which one is your favourite, the one we should definitely taste?
We serve 6 different flavors. The Classical is the one most preferable, with the Mango, the Strawberry, and the Madagascar Vanilla following. We also offer 2 more flavors that constantly change between blubbery, mastic, lemon, cherry, kiwi, and pistachio. On top, you can add one or more from our 26 toppings, such as fresh fruit, honey, nuts and many kinds of hot chocolate sauce.
What are your plans about the future of Louyo?
Well, I have expansion and growth plans. There is a great interest, especially by foreigners who visited the island and tasted our product, who would like to invest on franchise. Personally, I do want to open a second, maybe a third store, but I am not sure if it will be in Santorini or elsewhere. At the time, I do not know if the business extention is about to come from the inside to the outside or vice versa!
The Marmita Restaurant is now a part of the history of Santorini, since it has been operating in Megalochori since 2004. From 2013 it s been running under the observation of new owner Giannis Manikas and the sense of renewal is obvious.
