Edessa or Vodena, as previously called, is a small town in
central Macedonia in prefecture of
Pella, in this city, there are many rivers and waterfalls. Edessa abstains 560 km from Athens and only 89 from Thessalonica.
Built at the foothills of Mount Vermion, with magnificent view of the land field, with
running waters and rich vegetation, Edessa city is one of the most beautiful in Macedonia and a pole of attraction for tourists all year round.
In the area there is unusual vegetation. The city is among Vora forests. The natural beauty of the area, the archaeological and historical heritage, green spaces along with the sounds of water create a unique landscape.
There are many
traditions about how the establishment of the
Macedonia state with its capital Edessa. Here it was the palace of the first ten kings of Macedonia, in 410 BC, when Archelaus moved its capital to the beach of Pella. Over the past 10 years mainly randomly excavated in the Valley revealed "Logos", which is down and east of the city. Also was found carved tombs and remains of the aqueduct walls.
The only waterfalls in Greece are the hallmark of the city which is an impressive spectacle for all ages. There are "Little Falls”, crossing and adorn the namesake park downtown and the big waterfall" Karanos "with water falling from a height of 70 meters.
Despite the fact that the city had a strong post-war construction development retains its beauty, The
waterfalls, its numerous canals, crossing the city with small bridges, large parks (Kioupri, Waterfalls, Alexander, 25th March), the tree-lined streets are elements that make Edessa unique.
