30-04-2018 16:48
“Brunch” is both a noun, a verb and way of life. It’s not only an opportunity to eat something nice, but also a way to catch up with friends in the middle of the day. In Athens city we love it for both reasons. We have even discovered an easily accessible spot, perfect for the citibreakers to enjoy a full breakfast or a brunch during their travel in the Greek capital.Zaf cafe is located in Agia Irini square, very close to Monastiraki and Syntagma square (5’ walking from each) and to Ermou street with the numerous stores.
This square, which first begun as an alternative, gay friendly spot, turned into one of the hottest meeting points in Athens, the ultimate “all day” thing! Perfect for a coffee break for the thousands of the citizens who work in the capital, or a drink with friends at night, but also an interesting place for the foreign visitors who would enjoy the atmosphere, the events, quality food and many more.
Zaf is a cozy cafe bar restaurant with a beautiful interior space and some tables on the pavement. Its refreshed menu includes 11 new brunch choices that will amaze you!
We tasted most of them and we went crazy for the fisherman omelette with salmon and Mediterranean herbs, but also for the double bacon tower (!) with scrabbled eggs, traditional bread, bacon, cherry tomatoes and basil pesto. Delicious were the pancakes and the waffles, no matter salty or sweet. If you really want to taste something typical Greek, try the “strapatsada”, an old recipe for scrabbled eggs and fresh tomatoes… it’s the easy but delicious dish we’ve all been eating as we grew up, the one moms and grandmoms prepare quicky for their beloved.
All of the materials used are of high quality and absolutely fresh, which ends up to a delicious result, sure to satisfy your palate. The menu includes ideas from italian, spanish and german cuisine.Zaf cafe opens at 10 in the morning. They just need half an hour for preparations and they are ready to serve you breakfast and brunch from 10.30 till 14.00 at noon. (* you can go on with other snacks and dishes afterwards).
So, if you plan a trip to Athens city, have Zaf Cafe on your mind. Before you wander around the town, visit our sights and museums or spend hours in shopping, take a break and the energy you need for all these through the delicacies of Zaf.Plateia Agias Eirinis (Agia Eirini Square)

More about Monastiraki, Athens
The Monastiraki (little monastery) flea market is held in one of the oldest parts of the city at the foot of the Acropolis in the Monastiraki neighborhood on Avissynias Square. The neighborhood is known for its shops and open-bazaar type stores which line the streets but there is also the market which is not worth missing. Each of the narrow streets which leads off of Monastiraki Square is packed with interesting stores and the trick is to explore these smaller lanes. Monastiraki Square is surrounded by interesting buildings like the mosque built in 1759 which now houses a ceramics museum and the Church of the Pantanassa. Close by is Hadrian's Library and the Agora.
The Sunday flea market has been held in Avissynias Square since 1910 and it is a jumbled collection of everything you can imagine. You can find anything for sale here from WWII memorabilia, chess sets, brass, copper pans and Mickey Mouse clocks to real antiques. Pick up a chandelier, clothing, kitchenware or souvenirs at the market. Feel free to bargain. The nice thing about the market is that you will not be surrounded by only tourists; the locals like to shop here as well. Wander through the many streets and see the small and unique stores and the larger more tourist oriented ones. Visit some sandal makers where you can have a pair of leather sandals handmade for you.
