The trademark of Tinos Island is the numerous dovecotes. These marvellous buildings are built from stone and slate following a distinctive architecture. The valley of Tarambados has most of the dovecotes of the island; many of them have been also renovated thanks to the well-preserved path leading there.
In the northern utmost of the island are the beautiful port of Panormos and the impressive village of Pyrgos. Pyrgos is the birthplace of one of the greatest sculptors in Greece Giannoulis Halepas and his house is now a museum. The village has the typical Cycladic architecture with white house and narrow alleys combined with extensive use of marble in both construction and decoration. The alleys are literally marble-paved with carved symbols. No wonder why is here the Faculty of Fine Arts and Marble Sculpture.
