The village of Peraia or Perea is built on the foothills of Mount Voras, 600 m above sea level, on the bank of Lake Vegoritida. It has about 400 permanent residents, who are mainly engaged in fishing and agricultural crops but also in tourism with hotels and restaurants. The village has 3 churches and a strong Minor Asian character. The village was formerly inhabited by a Turkish-speaking Muslim population. After the 1922 population exchange between Turkey and Greece, the village was inhabited by Greeks who had come from Canakkale Apollonia region in Asia Minor.
