Kaimaktsalan, a unique winter destination
05-12-2012 15:12Palios Agios Athanasios, or Kaimaktsalan as it is also called, is a traditional mountainous village with stone built houses with tiles, built according to the local Macedonian architecture. The ski centre transformed the village into a cosmopolitan winter resort and is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Greece, with impressive restored houses turned into luxury hotels, traditional guesthouses and pensions, shops, restaurants and nightclubs.
Palios Aghios Athanassios is the most known winter destination in Macedonia, Greece and a real pole of attraction for tourists. Its position and easy access from the city of Thessaloniki has made it one of the places that have so many people every weekend. The high quality accommodation and the fact that one can do innumerable sports and activities are to be mentioned as mejor advantages of Kaimaktsalan.

Like a relay race of three generations; a journey with happy days, sad days, joys, sorrows, wars, Occupation, poverty, hunger, deaths, volcanic eruptions, catastrophic earthquakes, flee for a better life, return, better days, feasts, tourism explosion, financial crises and so on… Everything has been indelibly inscribed on the walls of this small building, Aktaion. I feel grateful that life has given me the opportunity to hold the reins of Aktaion all the way to its centennial.
