There is not much evidence of the history of these islands, but we know for sure that they have been lairs of pirates during the Venetian and Byzantine Era. The presence of many ancient mines indicated that Fourni have been the suppliers of marble for ancient Miletus in Minor Asia. In the war of Greek Independence in 1821, Fourni played a significant role in the battles against the Turks.

 

 

The secluded beaches, the rocky old pirates’ coves and the fresh fish by the local fleet are the best sights of Fourni. It is an alternative destination far from the mainstream kind of holidays in Greece.

 

The most famous product of Fourni is the thyme honey. There is also fresh fish and local cheese made of goat milk.
