It is one of the most complete
Zoological Parks in Europe, as it occupies a total area of
200 acres, housing more than 2,000 animals from 350 different species. A unique experience for adults and children.
The operation began in
May 2000, initially as a
Bird Park, the third largest bird collection in the world (1,100 birds from 300 different species), farm animals for younger guests and 3 very impressive large cages - thumbnails of 3 continents - in where visitors can admire the ornithological fauna and flora.
Since April 2001 when the zoo added “
The World of Reptiles ” it started continuous extensions and additions icluding the “
Greek exhibit” Fauna by animals rarely found in Greece (summer 2002), “
African Savannah” with animals from the African continent (February 2003), the part with the monkeys and apes (June 2003), the completion of the portion of felines and the expansion of the “African savannah” (December 2004), the "
Forest Monkey" where guests can be at the same place with the monkeys (early 2005), the"
land of Chita", which hosts 4 Chita in a large space in which visitors can traverse through stages, the section of chimpanzees and Gibbons (March 2008) and finally the "
desert region" where animals such as camels, donkeys, etc. from Somalia are hosted (April 2008). In May 2010 the Park added 2 white rhinos and in May the Attica Zoological Park 'grows' the family by bringing
4 dolphins and 2 sea lions.
The plans for the future include the expansion of the "
Dinosavropolis" - a museum focusing on Evolution in the Age of Dinosaurs and the '
Okeanopolis", a Standard Aquarium.
