In a
full day guided tour you will have the opportunity to see all the famous sites of ancient Athens, the modern side of the city and still time left for a visit to
Cape Sounion in the evening so that to enjoy the perfect sunset.
You will start with a photo stop at
Panathenaic Stadium, proceeding by Zappeion and
Temple of Olympian Zeus, you will see the University of Athens, the Academy of Athens, and the National Library. Continue passing by National Garden,
Hadrian’s Arc, St. Paul’s Church, Parliament, Tomb of the
Unknown soldier, Schliemann’s House (
Numismatic Museum), Catholic Cathedral, Old Parliament, Syntagma Square, Russian Orthodox Church, and finally the
Acropolis.
Next you will have a pleasant short walk passing by Herodion and Dionysus Theater and you will visit the
Acropolis museum.
Your guide will show you the Caryatids, the Parthenon hall with the metopes, the pediments and the frieze.
After this you will have a
lunch break, choose one of the many traditional restaurants to enjoy your lunch with the view of Acropolis.
After lunch you will depart for a lovely drive alond the scenic coastal road, you will have a perfect view of the Saronic Gulf as you pass throught the most beautiful Athens suburbs,
Glyfada, Varkiza and Vouliagmeni.
Cape Sounion is only 45 miles away, you will be there before you know it. The
Temple of Poseidon is build on a rocky hill with the sea underneath. The view is just amazing, on a clear day you can see 7 islands, while the sunset is said to be one of the most magnificent in the world.
The Temple was built in 44 B.C. Many of its Doric columns are still standing, while one of them has a scripture from Lord Byron.
