Geography of Skiathos
Skiathos spans an area of 49,8 sq. km. with a total population of 6.160 residents.
Skiathos is located close to
Magnesia mainland region and
Mount Pelion on the west and the island of
Skopelos on the east.
History of Skiathos
Skiathos played a role in the Persian Wars as it seems to have fought against Persians.
Skiathos joins the Delian League and gets destroyed by Macedonians, falls in Roman hands and later in 12th century goes under Venetians. Barbarossa sieges the island and
Skiathos falls under Ottoman Rule. Venetians claimed back for a few years but the island remained in the Turks till the Greek War of Independence.
Skiathos joined the Greek State in 1830.

Chora is the most visited place as the crowds of tourists come here to wander around the white houses with the red roofs, eat at the traditional taverns and have fun in the clubs and bars. The medieval town of
Kastro offers a breathtaking view really worth to be seen. The film

Local Products of Skiathos
There are some wine varieties cultivated here producing Muscat wine and the local dark red Skiathian wine.

By air from Athens International Airport or by ferry or catamaran boats departing from Agios Konstantinos Port, Volos Port or Thessalonica.
Best time to visit Skiathos
From May till October. Skiathos gets crowded in July and August.
