History of Skiathos
played a role in the Persian Wars as it seems to have fought against Persians. Skiathos
joins the Delian League and gets destroyed by Macedonians, falls in Roman hands and later in 12th century goes under Venetians. Barbarossa sieges the island and Skiathos
falls under Ottoman Rule. Venetians claimed back for a few years but the island remained in the Turks till the Greek War of Independence. Skiathos
joined the Greek State in 1830.

From May till October. Skiathos gets crowded in July and August.
