General

Psara is a remote, rocky island sparsely populated. It is not popular as a tourist destination and the hotels and restaurants are very few. It is though the perfect place for peace and relaxation.

History

Psara is the birthplace of glorious naval admirals and part of the naval tradition that flourished in Greece. Psara had a leading role in the resistance of the Greeks against the Turks during the revolution of 1821. The privileges once had been given to the residents for the development in trading led to a strong naval force of Psara. The courage of the brave Psarians fighting against the Turks is memorable but Turks answered with slaughter in retaliation in 1824.
