Description of Agistri


The small island of Agistri is a worth escape from the mainstream tourism of the Saronic Islands. It provides hotels and restaurants near the beach and is the ideal destination for families and peace seekers. Densely covered with pine forests and very few cars around, you can enjoy Agkistri on foot.


Geography of Agistri


Agistri spans an area of 13,3 sq. km. with a total population of 920 residents. Angistri is closely located to the island of Aegina on the east.

History of Agistri


This small green island across Aegina is not the destination of history lovers. The history of the island has always followed that of the island of Aegina. Its present name is Agistri meaning fishing hook in Greek while in antiquity was referred to as Kekryfalia. The island was supplied with electricity only in 1973 and is the most unspoiled island in the Saronic Gulf.

Sightseeing on Agistri


There are only three settlements on Angistri: Megalohori, Skala and Limenaria. Megalohori is the main village where the majority of the inhabitants live. Skala is where most of the hotels and restaurants are. Limenaria is a very small village on the other side of the island with very little tourism.
