Filoti village of Naxos is located at the foot of Mount Zas at an altitude of about 400 meters, and 19 km. From Chora. It is the biggest village of Naxos and all the Cyclades, both by population, about 1800 inhabitants, and town planning terms.
The village is built amphitheatrically on three hills (Kartsopino, Klefaros and Rachidi) and has the highest peak of Cyclades, that of Zas (1004 meters), the mountain where according to legend Zeus lived his childhood so as to avoid his father Cronus.
Although it is no confirmed, the name of the village is said to come from the Ionic Filoti that also occurs on the island of Thassos.
Every year in Filoti, on the 15th of August, a big festival takes place for the celebration of the church of Panagia Filotissa, which is dedicated to Virgin Mary and stands out for its wonderful sculpture steeple.
