The region of Grevena is situated in western Macedonia, sharing borders with Ioannina to the west, Kastoria to the northwest, Kozani to the north, Larissa to the southeast and Trikala to the south. The region spans an area of 2.291 sq. km. with a population of 38.256 residents. The capital city of the region is the city of Grevena with 10.939 inhabitants. The region is mainly mountainous with the highest mountains being part of Pindos mountain range: Mount Smolikas, Hasia and Vourinos.
The region of Grevena is mountainous with slopes of dense forests, dotted with small traditional villages and numerous stone built bridges. The valley of Valia Calda (warm valley) has been an important ecosystem with animals of rare species. The rare findings of the fossils of mastodons in the area have highlighted the significance of the region. The ski center of Vasilitsa is among the best ski centres in Greece with very good quality and quantity of snow that gathers numerous visitors, lovers of winter sports and snow activities.
