Food, part of our culture...

Info

The Marmita Restaurant is now a part of the history of Santorini, since it has been operating in Megalochori since 2004. From 2013 it's been running under the observation of new owner Giannis Manikas and the sense of renewal is obvious.

Based on the Meditteranean cuisine and the local recipes of Santorini, Marmita offers authentic Greek dishes which are prepared of pure ingredients. The chef adds his personal creative touch and the result, apart from delicious, is also extremely imaginative in apperance.

The philosophy of Marmita restaurant is summarized in basic principles: excellent quality raw materials and well organized kitchen. "Think, decide, act" is the chef's motto, and everything is getting done according to that!

The menu includes dishes as the traditional moussaka, pork and  chicken souvlaki, chicken fillet, papardelle with beef in tomato sauce and mushrooms, stuffed kalamari (squid), pork loin chop, prime ribs, seafood risotto, duck breast, fresh fish and many more. Appetizers like the Greek bruschetta, the fava of Santorini and the tomato balls are not to be missed!

In addition to meat, pasta and fish, you will also have the chance to taste a fantastic pizza, made by the "king" of the kitchen Vaggelis, who changed its shape and serves it rectangular and in mammoth size (45x35 cm)!

When it comes to dessert, you can choose among handmade spoon candies, baklava, traditional loukoumades (similar to pancakes) with fruits, honey and ice cream, panakota or the amazing chocolate souffle which is usually mentioned as the best on the island!

In an atmospheric area, in the center of Megalochori village, under the characteristic bell tower of the village, you will have the chance to taste familiar flavours that bring, however, the special creative touch of a talented chef.

In winter we use an extra wood stove in the restaurant, where we cook daily delicious oven dishes, soups and "rakomelo" (typical Greek mixed alcoholik drink).
