General

Just 25 km from the city of Arta is our Greek "Polynesia", a picturesque village that is surrounded by the Amvrakikos bay. The reason for Koronissia, which impresses either you look at it from above (the aerial photographs capture the island of Pera Nissi, which is joined by a strip of land to the rest of the prefecture!) or exploring it on foot.

The beauty of the area is a real challenge for visitors and the reason why it was touristically developed. Residents are engaged in fishing and tourism, so visiting Coronisia will offer you a nice travel and gastronomic experience.

Those who visit Koronissia (or Korakonissia) talk about the picturesqueness of the settlement, with the houses being built circularly on a small hill, overlooking the closed sea, and the boats rowing in its harbor, supplying the local taverns with fresh fish and seafood.

Beyond the natural environment and the beauties of the region, it is worth taking a moment to visit the Byzantine church of Panagia Koronissia dating back to the 7th century and refers to a rare type of cruciform semi-dome-shaped temple.

On June 12, the locals honor the patron saint of the area, Osios Onoufrios, who lived in a monastery on the island of Koronissia, while Virgin Mary is celebrated on 8 September.
