The city of Lamia is a well developed country town. It is situated in a strategic position, on the southern outskirts of Orthis Mountain. Lamia and residents of the region of Fthiotida played an important role in the resistance against Germans. They were culminating in the bombing of Gorgopotamos Bridge. They achieved a crucial blow against fascism and this helped in the victory of Allied Forces.

The area around has many seaside villages ideal to swim in crystal and clear waters and fresh fish in fish restaurants.
