Sightseeing in Agistri Island
29-04-2013 13:10It is only 45 minutes from Piraeus and 10 minutes from Aegina it is a small paradise in the Saronic Gulf.
In a visit there you can enjoy the beaches and the local food but there are also a lot of interesting sights you can see.
Cultural Center
You can find it in Megalochori , the capital of the island, many archaeological findings with great interest.
Agioi Anargiroi
This is a beautiful, white-washed Church with a light blue dome, it is situated in Slaka and is celebrated on the first of July.
The chapels of Agioi Pandes and Agioi Theodoroi
In a pine trees forest just above Megalochori, the access is easy with a 10 minute walk. They stand there through the passing of time and invite the visitor to learn about the island's roots, Kadoudi, meaning the old village, what is left of Agistri's oldest settlement.
Church of Zoodochos Pigi
This is the island's Cathedral, it is in Megalochori and it is worth visiting its noteworthy murals.
It is celebrated on Easter Friday and a fair also takes place.
Agios Nikolaos
Is situated outside Limenaria, a 10-nimute walking distance.
The Church of Agia Kiriaki
Is situated in Limenaria and celebrated on the 7th of July. On that day a big fair takes place.
Virgin Mary at Metochi
A church at Metochi that you can visit by trekking, an amazing view from the church.
