Shopping at Kolonaki
09-01-2013 15:06There is a certain region in Athens city center which is considered as the most aristocratic one. It's named Kolonaki that means "little column", after a small ancient column in the middle of its square. Kolonaki is full of expensive boutiques, luxury brands, elegant cafes and restaurants, as well as private galleries.
Many are the Athenians who prefer Kolonaki for a coffee and a break from work, so you'll see too many people sitting at the cafeterias, even on working hours. The central square is the meeting point for numerous of lawyers, politicians, actors, journalists etc, while some of them have also bought houses at this neighborhood, which is in fact among the most expensive real estate in Greece.
If you enjoy shopping, Kolonaki is definitely the place to be. There are so many stores with elegant -expensive though- clothes, shoes and accessories that you'll need hours to see them all. Famous fashion designers have their ateliers on strategic points of the main roads (Skoufa, Tsakalof, Voukourestiou, Dimokritou). Even if you don't plan to spend money, window shopping at this elegant neighborhood is absolutely fascinating.
Kolonaki lays at the foot of Lycabettus Hill, on a few minutes walking distance from Syntagma Square.
