One-Day Tour to Epidaurus & Mycenae
11-03-2013 17:34Two of the most important archaeological sights in one tour... Mycenae was a major city from 1600 B.C to 1100 B.C in Greece and Epidaurus is a world heritage monument. This tour is something you will enjoy for sure. Explore them both with your guide, learn and see everything!
In the 2nd century B.C., Mycenae was one of the most important cities of Greek civilization and a military power which dominated most of the southern Greece. You will visit the archaeological site, home to King Agamemnon. You will have the opportunity to see the Treasury of Atreus, the Royal Tombs including Clytemnestra’s and Agamemnon.
You will have free time for lunch in a nearby restaurant.
Through Argos you will proceed to Nafplio, the first capital city of modern Greece with Palamidi, a Venetian fortress and Bourtzi, the fortified islet. A short stop for coffee.
Next stop is Epidaurus and the ancient theatre. Another UNESCOS World heritage monument, myth says it was the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asklepios the most famous healer of the classical world.
The theater of Epidaurus is still in use, its acoustics is amazing and many very famous artists from Greece and abroad perform plays of ancient Greek writers such as Euripides and Aeschylus.
