Aegina is a small
island but with great history, beside the natural beauty of it you can also find museums and archives very interesting.
The former house of Agios Nektarios
You can visit a couple of rooms where Saint Nektarios used to live at the monastery of Saint Nektarios.
The Archeological museum of Kolona
In a visit to the museum you will find three main halls with a surprising number of artifacts. A marble Sphinx is at the entrance from the classical period which was dedicated to Apollon.
The sculpture has the head of a woman and the body is half an eagle and half a lion.
The Aphaia temple and museum
On the temple site you will find the museum and some remains of the temple.
Christos Kapralos museum
One of the greatest Greek artists of 20
th century, Christos Kapralos worked in a studio in Aegina for 30 years. Marked by a large bronze statue of his mother the museum displays a great variety of art pieces.
Historical & Folklore museum
It is housed in a neoclassical building in Aegina town. You can visit an Aegenitean room, a village room or a fishermans room all decorated with costumes, furniture and paintings.
The Governor’s house
Every historic document of Aegina since 1989 is housed in the historical building of the Governor House. You can find documents of the prison, the peace court house, the schools, the Municipality, maps, old newspapers and old books about Aegina.
Kapodistriaki Library
Is housed on a one-floor building in Aegina town and it was built by the German conquerors in 1948. A collection of 35.000 books some of them very old and rear.
