Municipal Gallery of Athens13-02-2013 15:02The museum is situated on 51 Piraeus str. on Koumoundourou Square, a neoclassical building built on 1875.
It housed the city nursery until 1977 and in 1982 it was renovated in order to become a gallery.
The municipal collects has items from 1923 and the main part was acquired by the Municipality of Athens in 1930 – 1940.
Today it contains more than 2.500 works of art from famous artists such as Iakovidis, Parthenis, Gounaropoulos, Engonopoulos, Moralis, Papaloukas and others.
Furthermore you can find some sculptures by Philipotis, Bonanos, Tompros, Araptis and others . Very interesting are also many engravings by Tassos, Kefallinos and Katraki.
A part of these collection is on permanent display but there are always temporary exhibitions also.
You can visit the Municipal Gallery Monday to Friday 09:00 – 13:00 & 17:00 – 20:00 and on Sundays 09:00 – 13:00 and the entrance is free.
