18-02-2013 15:16The highest point of Athens gives you an amazing view of the city.
If you are an athletic type and love adventure you can go up on foot starting from Ploutarchou street, if you like it easy and comfortable you can take the funicular from the same place. Every 30 minutes they go up and down the hill.
On the top there is a café – restaurant were you can relax and have a coffee, a drink or lunch.
Lycavittos Hill is rising 277 meters above the city, and is a landmark visible from almost everywhere in the city.
The mythology says that Athena accidentally dropped a heavy rock she was going to use for the construction of Acropolis. Its history isn’t great but the amazing view makes it a great tourist destination.
A small white chapel is on top of the hill, St George, very graphical and very beautiful. From the observation deck you can see the Acropolis, the open air amphitheatre and the surrounding hills of Athens plus the entire city, on a clear day you can see the sea and the port of Piraeus, and the islands in the Saronic gulf.
The most romantic place in Athens to have dinner on the open air restaurant after dark with the spectacular view of the town.
