Keratsini is a suburb in the western part of Athens - Piraeus agglomeration. Situated on the Saronic Gulf coast, it is mostly known because of the battle of Salamis that was held in 480 B.C.
After the disaster in Asia Minor and the forced exhange of population, Keratsini (also known as Tambouria) welcomed many refugees and the population grew substantially. It was them who built the characteristic church of St. Panteleimon, near Kyprou square, indeed.
Nowdays, Keratsini is full of youth, commercial streets with stores of any kind, cafeterias, bars, sports clubs, sights of cultural interest etc...
