Sappho: the lesbian poetess
Sappho is one of the few female poets whom we know of from ancient Greece. She was born in the island of Lesbos in 630 B.C. and the clearly homosexual nature of her poetry gave rise in the 19th century to the word lesbian, meaning “a woman who has sexual feelings for other women.”

Socrates: The Enigmatic Philosopher
Socrates, born in 469 B.C. was an Athenian philosopher, who despite the fact that he left no writings, is of landmark importance in Western thought. His philosophical thinking was directed more toward questions of ethics in life and his teachings profoundly influenced his pupil Plato whose work of dialogues is generally taken as being the more reliable report, both of the character and of the teachings of Socrates.

Astakas restaurant and the Statue of Poseidon in Milos.
The statue of Poseidon, made of Parian marble, was found in 1877 on Milos island, along with a statue of his mate, Amphitrite. The larger than life-size statue depicts the god almost nude, wearing a himation covering the lower part of the body. In his raised right hand he will have held the trident. Next to his right leg is a support in the form of a dolphin. Today, the statue is exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens city.

It opened in 2004 and soon became one of the favourite dining spots in Santorini. It is called Metaxy mas which means.. between us, but it is not a secret any more that this restaurant has a rich menu with almost 40 different dishes and appetizers based on traditional Greek cuisine.
