Description of Delphi
Delphi, also known as “The
Navel of the
World” is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world. Every year, more than 1.500.000 visitors come into close contact with this historic place, which has been announced by
UNESCO, a place of
Worldwide Cultural Heritage. Apart from an important archaeological site,
Delphi is a
modern tourist resort with many
hotels and
restaurants, 15 minutes driving far form the sea to the south, and 20 minutes form the
Parnassos ski resort to the north and the town of
Arahova.
History of Delphi
The history of Delphi dates back to the 14th century B.C. and Delphi area has been acknowledged as a place of remarkable positive energy, home of the sanctuary of god Apollo in a stunning location surrounded by towering crags, the Phaedrades Rocks, and with the gulf of Itea in the background. The Archaeological Museum exhibits masterpieces of worldwide splendour. The famous bronze statue of “The Charioteer of Delphi”, the “Sphinx of the Naxians”, the archaic Kouroi “Kleovis and Biton”, found in the remains of the Oracle of Delphi, are dominant and represent art on its best.

How to get to Delphi
It is approximately a 2 hours drive from Athens. Regular bus services also provide easy and comfortable access all year round. Delphi is just 6 km far from the famous winter resort of Arahova.
