Delos
27-03-2013 11:37The holy island of Ancient Greeks which according to the mythology was revealed in Lito who was persecuted from Ira through the waves of Aegean, in order to give birth to her daughter Artemis. . In Delos exist the ruins of one of the bigger and very impressively organized settlements of Greco – Roman antiquity.
The island firstly inhabited the 3rd millennium b.c probably from “Kares”. The settlements of Romans later, has as result the massive attendance of Egyptains, Syrians, and Italians and the further groeth of island until 88 b.c. where at the duration of Mithridatikon wars, it suffers two horrible attacks and begins to decline until its final abandonment the 6 the a.b. of century.
After centuries the French Archaelogical Faculty begins excavations in the archaelogical space in 1873 and Delos reveales its rich History to the whole world.
The archaeogical Museum of Delos is one of the most famous in Greece, with infrequent exhibits as sculptures, vessels, signs, marvelous, mosaics atc. Delos and Rineia are under the protection of Ministry of Culture the mooring of ships the overnight stay of individuals without special authorisation are prohibited.
By boat: There are daily routes (except Monday) because the arcaelogical site is closed. Routes are Cycladic Islands (Tinos and Naxos).

Like a relay race of three generations; a journey with happy days, sad days, joys, sorrows, wars, Occupation, poverty, hunger, deaths, volcanic eruptions, catastrophic earthquakes, flee for a better life, return, better days, feasts, tourism explosion, financial crises and so on… Everything has been indelibly inscribed on the walls of this small building, Aktaion. I feel grateful that life has given me the opportunity to hold the reins of Aktaion all the way to its centennial.
