The Historical Archive of Kythera is located in the fortress keeping records from the 16th century. The beauty and inspirational influence of the island have been depicted in the famous painting “The Embarkation for Cythera” but also in Theo Angelopoulos’ movie. One of the most important archaeological findings was discovered in a shipwreck near the island of Antikythera and it is known as the Antikythera mechanism which is considered to be the world’s oldest analog computer.

The gorge of Tsakonas is located in the centre of the island with churched hidden in the rocks and natural springs, ideal for walking. The 22 watermills of Kythira are located near the river and a waterfall. You can also visit the island of Antikythera by boat.
