Chios has a number of natural routes to the island where the visitor can experience the magic and mystery of the unexplored wandering through a beautiful and timeless landscape.
The main natural routes of Chios are:
The gorge of Kampi
The gorge of Kampi is a unique spectacle as it is one of the most impressive landscapes of the island. It is a habitat for rare bird species has been proposed by the Hellenic Ornithological Society for declaration as protected natural area.
The hydrophilic riverine vegetation in conjunction with the forest species, rocks and the water give the walker a sense of paradise on earth. The route length is 2,700 m and the duration of walking is approximately 1.5 hours.
Aghii Pateres - New Monastery
The distance is about 1100 meters and the time is approximately 35 minutes. The walk is in the old cobbled street.
Mesta - Olympoi
The distance is about 2050 meters and the time required is one hour. The walk is on a flat path and along the route visitors can see gum and olive trees and forest vegetation.
Grias Castle
The hiking trail is on a mountain and takes about 45 minutes. The landscape is rocky with low vegetation. The total distance is 1200 m.
Valley Malagkioti
The walking is easy and is in the plain of Volissos. The distance is 3 km and the total time 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Castle Apolichnon
The walk is a mountain path. The route is 1,070 meters and the time needed is 40 minutes. You can admire the plains with olive and mastic trees and as the altitude increases you can see pine trees.
