Athens War Museum
13-02-2013 14:58The Athens War Museum is located at the junction of Vasilissis Sofias Av. and Rizari str.
The building is one of the most famous in the city because of its impressive style and shape. Many cultural authorities claimed it to house their activities but finally on July 18, 1975 it was established as the War Museum of Athens.
It was the first museum that was equipped with a conference room, a reception room, an amphitheatre for lectures and rooms for storage of the collections.
In the ground floor you can find collections of weapons and war objects for the operations of the Greek armed forces during World War II, the war in Cyprus and the war in Korea.
In the first floor you can make a journey through Greek war history from the prehistoric years until World War II. You can also find artifacts from other civilizations such as Ancient Japan and China.
Branches of the War Museum has established at the cities of Nauplion, Chania, Thessaloniki and Tripoli.
You can visit it from Tuesday to Saturday 09:00 – 14:00 with free entrance, for groups you need an appointment for weekends.
