Arahova is built on a rocky spur of Mount Parnassos at an altitude of 960m. with a great view of the Delphic countryside. Arahova has a population of 4.180 residents and is 160 far from Athens.
History of Arachova
Arahova is dotted with remnants of Ancient Greece but also played an important role during the War for Independence in 1821. The local hero Georgios Karaiskakis is the one who destroyed the army of Mustafah Bei in 1826 and a bust of him is at the town’s entrance.
Sightseeing in Arachova
The main street of Arahova is flanked by shops selling hand-woven rugs and various local products like cheese, honey, hilopites (hand made pasta) and sausages. Apart from a famous tourist destination, Arahova is also a town with traditional architecture and charming stepped alleyways that is a must to walk around in order to appreciate Arahova’s beauty. The ski centers of Kelaria and Gerontovrahos are just 25 km far from Arahova, where you can enjoy skiing or visit the National Park of Mount Parnassos where you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering, and climbing up or down and crossing gorges.
