Agioi Apostoloi, the haven of Kalamos region, is actually a resort town, very busy during summer months.
The history of the region is inextricably linked with the history of a holy oracle. Amphiaraos was one of the most prominent Greek heroes, son of Oiklis and grandson of Melabodas, who inherited the art of divination and had knowledge in medicine and pharmacology.
Later legends say that Amphiaraos was son of God Apollo and Ypermnistra or Clytemnestra. The Oracle was founded in 5th century BC in the area of Oropos and belonged to the Athenians.
At the area, there were operating an oracle and a hospital, while the important celebration of Amfiaraeia would take place every five years in honor of Ampiaraos and included athletic competitions.
Administratively, the region belongs to the municipality of Oropos, Attica, and is located 39 km away from the center of Athens. You can access Agioi Apostoloi by car or bus.
