Kronos (Saturn)
22-01-2013 20:58Kronos (Saturn) is the youngest of the first generation of Titans, children of Gaia (earth) and Ouranos (sky) who ruled the Titans during the legendary Golden Age.
Ouranos hated all of his children and prevented them from emerging into the light, causing Gaia to take action against him. In order to do so, Gaia asked for help to her children but none of them was willing to take action but the youngest of the Titans, Kronos. Gaia gave Kronos a sickle and with that he cut off the genitals of his father Ouranos. From Ouranos’ violent castration, blood or semen was split on Gaia, making it possible for her to conceive three groups of children: Giants, Erinyes and Meliai. Kronos hurled Ouranos testicles into the sea and by this union the goddess Aphrodite was born.
After dispatching Uranus, Cronus re-imprisoned the Hecatonchires, the Gigantes, and the Cyclopes and set the dragon Campe to guard them. He and his sister Rhea took the throne of the world as king and queen. The period in which Cronus ruled was called the Golden Age, as the people of the time had no need for laws or rules; everyone did the right thing, and immorality was absent.
Kronos after his victory over his father claimed his power and took the throne of the world as king, taking his sister Rhea as his queen of Gods. Kronos imprisoned his brothers and sisters Hecatonchires, Giants and Cyclops to Tartaros in order to secure his absolute power on the world, till he met the same fate by his own son, as an old prophecy has foretold for him.
Kronos was aware of his destiny, to be overthrown by his children, as he has done in the past to claim the throne of his father. To prevent the prophecy from fulfillment, Kronos devoured every one of his children as they were born. When the last son was born, Zeus, his mother Rhea hid him in Crete and instead of the baby she gave Kronos to shallow a stone.
When Zeus has grown up enough, he displaced his father, as his father has done to his father. Zeus gave Kronos an emetic, causing him to disgorge the children he has devoured and let them free. After that, Zeus released Giants, Hecatonchires, and Cyclops and with their help fought against his father, Kronos. This War is known as Titanomachia, the war of Titans, where the latter were defeated and Zeus took over power with the order of Olympian Gods.
