Religious tourism in Greece
Greece has a long history and innumerable monuments to prove that. Everywhere you look around, whether you travel on the Greek islands or the mainland country, you'll see churches and monasteries, from the Byzantine era most of the times, but even older.
Greece is a pole of attraction for religious tourists. Two significant areas are set here, that of Meteora in Thessaly, Central Greece and Aghio Oros (Mount Athos) in Chalkidiki, Macedonia. Their architecture, along with the landscapes where sometimes they are built to, have made them interesting spots for visitors from all over the world.
