Description of Zemeno
The settlement of
Zemeno is located at an altitude of 800 meters surrounded by pine trees on the road to
Arachova, just 5 km before the entrance to the town of
Arahova.
Zemeno is famous for its
taverns and
cottages offering
accommodation to
hotels with easy access to
Arahova,
Delphi and the
ski centers of
Mount Parnassus.
Zemeno has been famous as a passing by village since antiquity as the
pilgrims heading to the
Oracle of
Delphi used to stop here to rest.
Zemeno is rich in ancient findings that are kept in the
Archaeological Museum of
Distomo.
Zemeno also claims to be the place where mythical
Oedipus met his tragic fate by killing his father and played a key role in the Greek War of Independence against the Turks in 1821.
