Sotiris Kourias, the owner of Kouria Hotel
29-12-2014 15:28Mr Kouria, you own the biggest hotel complex in the village of Ambelakia. Please tell us a few things about it. Why should visitors choose Kouria Hotel for their accommodatio?
Kouria Hotel is built on a slope, on an area of 15 acres. It operates all year round and offers 24 hours reception service. It consists of 5 individual buildings that are connected with enclosed walkways. In total we have 16 rooms, a conference center (almost ready to operate in a while), a cafeteria and a restaurant, which –despite the meals served- can actually undertake various social events.
Since you’ve mentioned the restaurant, what can one enjoy there?
Well, we mostly serve Greek and Mediterranean dishes, prepared with local materials and products. After request, we also serve different dishes, other than the ones offered on daily basis.
You run a business in Ambelakia. Why –according to you- is this village different from other destinations in Larissa?
Ambelakia is a historic village. This is the place where the first copartner ship was set up in Europe. This is the strongest point of the village and the starting one for everything that happened afterwards till today. George Mavros, the founder of the first association, used to live here. His house is now a museum indeed. The village has actually three museums, one of Cultural Heritage, one Folklore and a History Museum along with a Museum of the period 1940-1949. Ambelakia also have five historic churches, with most important the one of Agios Georgios, a true work of art. Generally, the village has its own architecture. This unique architectural style is tought to the University of Athens, as one of a kind, though it has been influenced by Europe due to those who travelled because of trade businesses back in the past.
Apart from all these, Ambelakia enjoy the privilege of being set on the slopes of mount Kissavos, where a huge variety of flora and fauna are met. The area around Profet Elias offers an incredible view of the Tempe Valley, while you could also see the Mount Athos on the back. Finally, the settlement is only 5 km away from the National Road, very close to the city of Larissa. This is a strong advantage, since the visitor can easily access it. You could visit our village even for a daily excursion, if not for a longer stay with a night included. Moreover, we should definitely mention the fact that Ambelakia are in close distance with the city center of Larissa, meaning the terms of what can an urban center provide....
