Plaka is the capital of Milos Island. It is built on a ledge 220m above sea level. Traditional architecture, quaint paved alleyways, balconies packed with flowers and whitewashed courtyards and, the magnificent view of the bay are of what Plaka’s rare beauty is made of. This is the reason why Plaka is popular for tourists with many hotels and restaurants. The archaeological and the folklore museums are here in Plaka. The beautiful castle, located on the outskirts of the town, is built over the ruins of the old church of ‘Koimisis tis Theotokou’, which was blown up by the Germans during the German occupation of Greece.
