If you have more than one day in Athens this is a
trip you should do.
Delphi is a very important place to see, with history, physical beauty and picturesque houses all in one place.
On your way from Athens to Delphi you will see the plain of
Beotia, an agricultural center, but you will also pass by the city of Theva which was the birthplace of King Oedipus.As you continue towards
mountain Parnassos, you will make a short rest stop outside the town of Levadia.
Delphi was known in ancient times as the navel of the world. During your visit there you will pass by
Castalia Spring, you will visit the archaeological site, you will view the
monument of the Argive Kings, the Athenian Stoa, the Polygonal Wall, the Temple of Apollo and the monument of Platea, famous for its oracle, and finally
Delphi musem.
In the museum you will find amazing exhibits, like the frieze of the Treasury of the Sifnians, the Naxian Sphinx, the
bronze Charioteer which originally created to commemorate a victory during the 476 B.C and the
Statue of Antinoos.
A
lunch brake follows and you can enjoy it in any of the many traditional restaurants of the area, where you should try local specialties and greek wine.
You will return to Athena via the magnificent mountain
village of Arachova, built on the slopes of Parnassos, well known for its night-life, the hand woven carpets and the its wine and cheese. It's in fact a very popular destination in Greece, so you will definitely have a short stop there and then back to Athens.
