Experience the Greek nighlife in Psiri!
18-09-2012 16:05For many decades Psiri was a working class neighborhood full of factories and workshops. Nowdays, it's the place to be if you wish to experience the Greek nightlife.
Walking through the narrow streets in Psiri during the day is kind of deceiving, as it gives the sense of an abandoned city neighborhood. However, when the day hours pass, the streets get filled with crowds who enter the numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs. The lights are on, music gets louder and people of all ages hang around. The area is home to so many night bars that cover every taste, so you'll definitely find the one you're looking for.
Even though Psiri looks a little bit dangerous, it' not. You may think it's too dark as you leave the Athens commercial center to enter the district, but you soon realise that these dark grey streets lead to the heart of amusement, to a dreamy place where the party never stops. If you're lucky to travel in Athens during the "Apokries", at the carnival period, you'll see happy people dressed in costumes hang around at the area making jokes and having fun.
At Psiri, except for cafeterias, restaurants and bars, you'll also find some little shops with art crafts, hand made music instruments and antiques, that may be the right gift for your beloved.
Psiri is situated within close walking distance to the historic Acropolis and only a few steps from Monastiraki Metro station.
