Adamantas is one of the largest natural ports in the Mediterranean, fact that in combination with the mining of various metals, helped in the development of Milos Island in ancient times. The modern port was built in 1835 by Cretans, who reached Milos after a failed attack on the Turks. Adamantas is the tourist centre of the island with many hotels and restaurants but still has the charm of a seaside village with paved streets. The Mining and Ecclesiastic Museum is located near the port.
